"Throughout the last thirty years, although I have painted still life and figure, landscape has been my passion, in particular, anything with water - rivers, lakes, ponds, sea, I just find that water in all its shapes and forms and the way it reflects light, fascinates me! My influences are the French Impressionists, particularly Monet and Sisley; the Scottish Colourists, particularly Peploe and Cadell, and the Glasgow Boys; contributing a painterly quality to my work, and a feeling for light. I have painted in gouache, pastel and acrylic, but my first love was oils and I now paint almost exclusively in that medium, using fast drying alkyd paints which give all the rich butteryness of traditional oil paint, but dry quickly, which suits my technique of applying layers to the canvas and using drybrush."
