"I have been a professional artist for over twenty years; first as a tapestry weaver, then as a painter in watercolour and finally using mixed media. I attended three different secondary schools and was fitted into courses where there were places, consequently receiving virtually no art education at all. It was not until I was 18 that I discovered an interest in art. Unfortunately it was too late to pursue the subject so I chose a career in Primary Education and later in Special Education. I continued to draw and weave whenever I could until I finally left fulltime teaching to have a family. At this point I saw an opportunity to exhibit my work through galleries also becoming a member of the Scottish Craft Centre. Nowadays I combine painting with limited amounts of supply teaching. The busy demanding days in the classroom complement the solitary days in my studio but I enjoy both aspects of my working life. My work is simply on the theme of 'nature'. Each piece is improvisational, with no pencil marks on the paper or canvas and will be worked until I am satisfied with it. This can take days or even weeks. Sometimes a canvas will be started and then stored away to be completed months later".
